Anti-Virus for Mac Spywareprotection?
Is there a good program out there for Mac anti-virus and spyware protection and everything? I'm looking for a free or cheap that works well.
Free: ClamXav, link below. Payment: Virex, Norton, Sophos, Intego. There were a couple of viruses (worms, reality) for Mac in the past 15 years. Not a big problem. When I worked for Apple, we've used Virex. I've never had a virus in one of many Macs I have used in the past 15 years. I ran ClamXav once. It took 20 minutes and found nothing. Be sure to turn the built-in firewall (System Preferences> Sharing), using a router as a layer of additional hardware to make penetration less likely. Using Firefox with the NoScript extension to maintain websites for add commands to the drive. And, of course, never open attachments unless you know who created the file and waits to get it.
