spyware can not change the desktop image?

Today, I walked to the net as usual. I use Google Chrome as a browser, and I realized in my icon bar at the bottom there was a message that says my system was infected badly. I ran AdAware, and raised some points I've deleted. I restarted, and it changed my desktop image on a flashing warning sign saying I'm infected with some advice. HELP.
